The papers of Junius Morgan include receipts for the American Hotel in New York, teaching French, a fine for not performing military duty with the Governor's Foot Guard, correspondence from family and friends, receipts for food and household goods, a receipt for a pew at the First Unitarian Society, and other items. Morgan, a banker and financier, was the father of J.P. Morgan.

Born in 1813, Junius Spencer Morgan began his career first as a partner with the firm Morris Ketchum in New York, and then as a partner with Howe, Mather & Co. in Hartford. In 1836, he married Juliet Pierpont; the couple relocated their family to Boston in 1850 when Morgan joined the firm J.M. Beebe & Co.
